Washington Street Water Main Replacement Project

 

Weekly Construction Update – November 3, 2026

Construction continues to progress on the Washington Street Cast Iron Waterline Replacement Project between 59th Avenue and 66th Avenue. Crews are currently focused on completing waterline connections, water service installations, and roadway restoration in the northern portion of the project.

Current Construction Activities

• 66th Avenue: Crews are completing concrete restoration, backfilling, and asphalt repairs near the intersection. Additional concrete placement is scheduled this week.
• 64th to 66th Avenue: Water service installations and remaining waterline work are progressing. Asphalt restoration is being coordinated with ongoing underground construction.
• Roadway Restoration: Crews continue placing asphalt in previously excavated areas. Additional milling and pavement repairs will follow as work areas become available.
• 62nd Avenue: Preparations are underway for upcoming waterline construction, including survey verification and planning for pavement saw cutting.

Traffic and Access Impacts

Motorists should continue to anticipate temporary lane restrictions, construction equipment, and intermittent traffic delays along Washington Street, particularly near 64th and 66th Avenues.

Crews will continue coordinating construction activities to maintain traffic flow and minimize disruptions to surrounding businesses and properties.

Looking Ahead

Over the coming week, the contractor will focus on completing remaining work near 66th Avenue, advancing water service connections, continuing roadway restoration, and preparing for the next phase of construction near 62nd Avenue.

Construction schedules and traffic conditions are subject to change based on weather, testing results, and field conditions.

 

Emergency Water Main Replacement — 75th Place and Washington Street

Following several water main breaks along this section of pipe, District crews are replacing the failed 6-inch cast iron water main extending from Washington Street to 75th Place. The replacement will improve service reliability and reduce the likelihood of future breaks and service disruptions.

Water main replacement and pavement restoration were completed on October 30, 2026. 

 

 

27-Inch Sewer Main Replacement Near the Metro Lift Station

The District is replacing aging sewer main and manholes near the Metro Lift Station with new 27-inch PVC sewer pipe and Armorock polymer concrete manholes. These improvements will support reliable wastewater service and provide long-term protection against the corrosive conditions found in the sewer system.

 

Upcoming Water Main Replacement — 58th Avenue and Franklin Street

Plans are finalized for the replacement of the 16-inch water main at 58th Avenue and Franklin Street. Materials are being purchased and secured, with construction anticipated to begin in late fall or early winter 2026.

District crews will complete the project in-house, drawing on their experience and District resources to improve water system reliability, control construction costs, and maximize the value of ratepayer dollars.

Updates on construction timing and any anticipated traffic or water service impacts will be provided before work begins.
