Washington Street Cast Iron Water Main Replacement Project

The North Washington Street Water & Sanitation District is continuing active construction on the Washington Street Cast Iron Water Main Replacement Project. This important infrastructure improvement will replace aging cast iron water mains and improve the long-term reliability of the District’s water distribution system.

Washington Street Water Main Replacement Project

Weekly Construction Update – September 2, 2026

Construction on the Washington Street Cast Iron Water Main Replacement Project continues to move forward. Crews have installed approximately 1,000 linear feet of new water main and are preparing to test the first completed section.

Work Planned This Week

• Crews will continue water-main installation and related construction activities along Washington Street.
• Testing is expected to begin on the first completed section of new water main.
• Utility potholing and investigation will continue ahead of the pipe crew, particularly near upcoming intersection work.
• Crews will continue placing bedding, backfilling, and compacting completed sections of the water-main trench.
• Preparations will continue for construction through the 66th Avenue and Washington Street intersection. Saw cutting has been completed, and intersection work is tentatively being coordinated for the September 11–13 weekend.
• The contractor will continue preparing the area between approximately 64th Avenue and 62nd Avenue for upcoming water-main installation.
• Crews will continue investigating existing water services and hydrant branch lines as construction progresses.
• Temporary pavement restoration, business-access crossings, and roadway maintenance will continue throughout the active construction area.

No construction is currently anticipated over the Labor Day weekend. Crews are expected to work through Friday, remain off Monday, and return on Tuesday, September 8. The schedule remains subject to change.

Traffic Impacts

Motorists should continue to expect lane closures, traffic shifts, reduced speeds, construction equipment, and workers along Washington Street within the active construction area.

The District and contractor are coordinating with Adams County on traffic-control and construction-phasing plans for the upcoming work at 66th Avenue and Washington Street. Additional traffic impacts and possible detours will be communicated once those plans are finalized.

Temporary driving surfaces and business entrances will be inspected and maintained throughout construction. Motorists should use caution when traveling through the work zone and when entering businesses from Washington Street.

Businesses and properties along the corridor will remain accessible to the greatest extent possible during construction.

Project Progress

Approximately 1,000 linear feet of new water main has been installed. The first installed section is being prepared for testing and acceptance. Once testing is complete, crews will begin completing water-service connections and roadway restoration in finished areas.

To limit the amount of Washington Street disturbed at one time, the contractor will focus on testing, service connections, trench restoration, and initial pavement replacement within the existing construction area before extending mainline work farther south.

The District appreciates everyone’s patience as this important infrastructure project moves forward. Replacing the aging cast iron water main will improve the reliability and long-term resiliency of the District’s water distribution system.

 

South Side Phase 3 Water Line Project

Project Status: 🟢 Under Construction

The North Washington Street Water & Sanitation District continues construction on the South Side Phase 3 Water Main Replacement Project using District Operations staff.

By self-performing this project, the District is able to reduce construction costs, maximize the value of customer rate dollars, maintain high construction standards, and complete critical infrastructure improvements using its experienced in-house workforce.

South Side Phase 3 is replacing aging cast iron water mains with new ductile iron water mains throughout the South Industrial area. These improvements will strengthen the District’s water distribution system, improve reliability, and help provide dependable water service for decades to come.

Weekly Construction Update – September 2, 2026

District Operations crews are currently installing new ductile iron water main along Logan Street and progressing toward 58th Avenue.

Work Planned This Week

• Crews will continue installing new water main along Logan Street toward 58th Avenue.

Businesses and property owners in the active construction area may experience temporary access adjustments while crews complete the work. District staff will maintain access to surrounding properties to the greatest extent possible.

The District appreciates the continued cooperation of businesses and property owners in the South Industrial area while our Operations staff completes these important water-system improvements.
